SUMMARY: The Engine Development Technician will assemble, test, disassemble, and fabricate engines and components as well as assist in maintaining engine shop facilities, equipment, and spare parts inventory. This will require the ability to develop and maintain accurate records and documentation. The individual will work with engine designers and product team manager to coordinate product improvements and innovations to enhance achievement of long term product and corporate objectives. This will require working as a team with the engine, chassis, fuel systems, and test groups to conceptualize, develop, and verify through testing future engines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Fabricate and assemble prototype components and engines to detail specifications for review and testing.
  2. Effectively communicate with engineers and managers to discuss schedules, component issues, development needs, maintenance needs, and test results.
  3. Carry out field and laboratory test plans and procedures specified by engineering on a timely basis.
  4. Document and assure complete and accurate records of prototype and development engine builds.
  5. Maintain required engine parts inventory for development needs.
  6. Maintain work area clean and orderly.
  7. Travel to various suppliers, dealers, and/or test sites which may include foreign nations. Extended time away from home may be required.
  8. Assist Product Team Manager in development of timelines on projects.
  9. Support development of service manuals and part books.
  10. Safely ride and evaluate powersport vehicles.
  11. Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive designs, costing, test data, prototype models and product plans.
  12. Participate in and encourage the highest level of quality, efficiency and professionalism with co-workers.
  13. Participate hands-on in field functional development and final performance specifications.  

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  1. Must have 4-stroke engine knowledge.
  2. Knowledge of engine instrumentation and measurement equipment.
  3. Self-motivated, enthusiastic and punctual.
  4. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. 2 year technical degree or equivalent experience.
  2. Education or experience in working with 4-Stroke engines.
  3. Good verbal and written communication skills and experience using PC based spreadsheet and word processing systems.
  4. Experience in reading blueprints including GD&T.
